Turitella Agate (Elimia Agate)
Origin: USA, Wyoming, Green River Formation
These interesting fossiliferous Agate stones was formed during the Eoscene
epoch ca. 50 million years ago in inter-mountain lakes of the Green River Formation.
When this stone was found and named, it was suspected to be the silicified shells of a Turritella species, later it was found to be that of Elimia tenera, a species of freshwater snail that got fossilised in a brownish to blackish Chalcedony.
We are selling selected and large tumbled stones of this unique Agate. The photos were taken in bright sunlight to bring out their best colours.
